There is a lot of confusion with the term " buffalo ". There are the American Bison, the African Cape buffalo and the Water Buffalo, with which they not interbreed and which is classified in different genus. There is two diferents types of to water buffaloes, the Swamp (Bubalus carabanesis) which ploughs found from the Phillipine you far west the India and the River type (Bubalus bubalis) which ploughs found to farther west from India you the Egypt, Europe in the South America. The water buffalo is an originary specie from Asia that if spread out for practically all the continents, representing in 1986, according to FAO, a contingent of about 138.3 million animals, being about 95% in Asia, particularly in India, China and Pakistan. In the Europe, the main flocks are found in Italy, Romenia and Bulgaria, and in Americas, he main flock meets in Brazil, with a population of more than 2,5 million animals. An annual tax of growth (1980) of 5.4% still esteem by FAO.

The main product of the buffalo is the milk, that in 1986 was about 6.8% all the explored types of milk in the world, being that in India, its represents more than 50% of the milk produced in that country. Still it is explored for beef production (main product in Brazil), of leather, as well as for the work (mainly in Asia) and for the manure production.
In Brazil, it is found in practically all the country, being rise traditionally for beef. The interest in the exploration of its milk potential comes quickly spreading out in diverse regions of the country, particularly in the regions South and Southeastern, where already many livestocks are observed flocks under milk exploration, confirming your pottential of double aptitude. A decisive impulse in the extend of this exploration inhabits in the sprouting of dairies to produce exclusively derived from milk of buffaloes. In Brazil, we find four races: Carabao, Murrah, Jafarabadi and the Mediterranean. The first three originary from Asia and the last one from Italy.
Our property is placed in the city of Sarapui, in the state of Sao Paulo, where we keep currently about 300 animals the Murrah race, with an exploration aiming particularly to dairy and breed. On the basis of our experience of about 28 years breeding, with comment of about 2,700 births, we present to follow some comments on the behavior, handling and exploration of this species
